Although country superstar Keith Urban is still recovering from from a throat surgery he underwent in November, he’s gearing up for his next big gig — a coaching spot on the Australian version of The Voice, which is set to premiere later this year.

Alongside Seal, Delta Goodrem (a hugely popular Australian popstar — also, the current girlfriend of Nick Jonas), and Good Charlotte lead singer Joel Madden, Urban will mentor a team of eager singers in hopes of launching a new vocal pop star. Check out a new promo for the show below:

I’m surprised and impressed that producers nabbed Urban for the panel. Clearly, The Voice‘s success in America has proven that the swiveling chairs make a good home for current pop stars, but Urban definitely didn’t need the boost. Fellow country star Blake Shelton launched himself from notable status straight onto the country A-list after appearing on The Voice, but Urban has been selling out arenas and moving millions of albums for over a decade.

He would have been a great get even in America –but it’s nice to see him support his homeland! Tell me, PopWatchers, were you aware that Urban is coaching The Voice in Australia? Do you think the Australian coaches will get into the same deliciously entertaining spats as the American ones? Will you be scouring YouTube for clips of the auditions rounds (which would only be improved with Aussie accents)?
