Now that I’ve used gouda in a headline, I’m pretty sure life has nothing else to offer me. But if there’s anything, it would be the promise of more classic How I Met Your Mother episodes, like the one that aired tonight.

Now, if I’m being honest, it wasn’t the most belly-splitting half-hour ever. But it was certainly creative enough for me to appreciate it in all of its mind-bending glory. (See “Brunch,” season 2.)

A short recap, while Michelle Profis works on your full one:

Marshall and Lily tried to throw a house warming party, but the only one who was feeling the heat by the end of the episode, which took place in 5 minutes TV-time, was Marshall’s workaholic boss (Martin Short). Meanwhile, Ted and Robin were in a tiff because Ted thought Robin had to learn how to be nice. But Robin said that she’s not the type to let old ladies, girl scouts or muscular wheelchair-bound sixth graders boss her around. And Barney found himself easily charming Lily’s busty neighbor into bed, only to find out she came with a disclaimer. Once upon a time, she cut off a man’s big cheese after she treated her poorly — Barney-style. (Spoiler: He slept with her anyway and then took his chances with a swarm of bees to escape her possible wrath.)

There was no ah-ha moment in this episode, readers. (You know, the kind that reduces us all to tears oh-so frequently) And there were no huge laughs — for me, anyway. But it felt good to have the gang together, circling each other in the way only HIMYM can do. It was a familiar ride — one I’ll buy a ticket for every time. What were your thoughts?
