If you’re like most people, your reaction to the trailers for John Carter has probably been something along the lines of: “Wow, pretty colors! Hmm, green people? Say, shirtless Tim Riggins! I have no idea what this movie is about.” John Carter is based on the martian adventure novels of Edgar Rice Burroughs, an influential genre writer beloved by people who died decades ago, so it’s understandable if you haven’t heard of the source material. A new clip playing on the Disney channel may be a little illuminating for newcomers, introducing the titular adventurer’s posse: “An Unusual Friend,” “A Fearless Princess,” and “A Loyal Companion.” Said companion looks a little bit like a giant carnivorous frog. Watch the clip after the jump, and if you’re intrigued, why not read a bit of A Princess of Mars. (Public domain, baby!)
