Here at PopWatch we’re committed to keeping you informed about the things you may not need to know, but that you want to know. So yes, go ahead and guess which of your favorite actresses was just another fish in the sea for Hobie Buchanan…
The slow jogger in question is is My Week With Marilyn star Michelle Williams. According to GQ‘s February cover story, the Academy darling made her television debut playing the love interest of Hobie (Jeremy Jackson) just a week after her 13th birthday.
Two years later, Williams was emancipated from her parents (a business move) and sleeping on an egg crate in the Valley. She had long been precocious, comparing notes on Friedrich Nietzsche’s Thus Spake Zarathustra with a tween crush, hanging pictures of Montgomery Clift as a teen, and taking joy rides in her first car — a ’65 Mustang — at age 15.
It seems art has been getting Williams in trouble for years. Her parents insisted she seek therapy after seeing her strip down in a 1999 Off Broadway play called Killer Joe. Six years later, the principal of her San Diego private, Christian high school denounced her for her critically acclaimed role in Brokeback Mountain (a role she landed after being the very first woman to audition).
Other notable bits:
- Her father ran for the Montana state senate after a career as an explorer in which he claimed to have discovered the true site of Mount Sinai
- She lived on pizza while filming Dawson’s Creek at age 18
- She dressed as an owl for Halloween (her 6-year-old daughter went as Shirley Temple)
