Is 'Teen Mom' star Amber Portwood ready to quit the series?
From stints in prison to an alleged suicide attempt, MTV’s Teen Mom star Amber Portwood has gained plenty of notoriety since signing up for the docu-drama in 2009. Now, it seems she may be ready to walk away from the — often glaring — spotlight.
According to the Indiana-based The Herald Bulletin, Amber, who spent the holidays behind bars for violating the terms of her probation (which includes a lengthy list of offenses such as failing to submit to drug tests and and not completing anger management courses), told a judge during her court hearing last week that she wanted to part ways with the reality series. “I want to quit, and I will,” she reportedly said, testifying that she felt exploited through her work with the network.
The 21-year-old mother, who recently announced that she had been diagnosed with bi-polar and dissociative disorder, will have some time to think about her decision. The judge ordered Portwood to remain in jail until Jan. 27 for another evidentiary hearing regarding her violations.
Considering the fact that Amber has managed to get herself into trouble on and off camera, I’m not entirely convinced that leaving the show will put an end to her problems (though staying in the public eye obviously isn’t doing much for her either). But what are your thoughts? Is Teen Mom to blame for Amber’s run-ins with the law? And could bowing out of the show’s fourth season be a much needed get out of jail card?
