The first official photo from Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper movie Magic Mike starring, from left to right, Joe Manganiello, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, and Channing Tatum, shows the actors in what appears to be a patriotic group number. I love this shot for two reasons: It attempts to keep the mystery alive by only showing us McConaughey shirtless, and it gives us something to debate — which song are they stripping to? My first thought, because McConaughey’s get-up reminded me of Apollo Creed in Rocky IV, was James Brown’s “Living in America.” But that doesn’t feel sexy enough. Grand Funk Railroad’s “We’re an American Band,” however, has a nice group opening feel to it, some dirty guitar, and a beat you can pelvic thrust to (which is why I’m ruling out “Born in the U.S.A.”). What’s your best guess/daydream?
