Oh, my, what a shocker that Larry King: Dinner with King special was on Sunday night. King hosted a dinner at his house with his wife Shawn and a camera crew, with guests Conan O’Brien, Seth MacFarlane, Tyra Banks, Shaquille O’Neal, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, Quincy Jones and Russell Brand.

King said that when he dies, “I wanna be frozen, on the hope that they’ll find whatever I died of and they’ll bring me back.” Also, he doesn’t believe in an afterlife: “I don’t think you go anywhere.” “This is big news,” said Conan O’Brien.

Another breaking-news headline? Well, you know that imperious, haughty demeanor Tyra exhibits nearly every time there’s a camera on her? “I created a persona,” she told the slack-jawed but mouth-filled crowd. “It’s a character… in fact, I’m in coaching to learn how to be confrontational.” Hoo boy, watch out, Top Models!

Asked what keeps them up at night, the celebs rattled off a series of sensible nighttime fears. But as his wife started to answer, Larry rumbled, “Ah, she’s up all night with the iPad and the Twitter.” I think Larry’s sleeping on the sofa tonight…

What an odd bit of programming Dinner with King was. CNN interrupted its coverage of arrests at Occupy DC to have its viewers watch people eat food prepared by Wolfgang Puck and proclaim their ordinariness. Don’t misunderstand: I’m not complaining. It was a heck of a lot better than anything King’s replacement, Piers Morgan, has done with his CNN time…
