To make Barbara Walters’ annual list of the The Ten Most Fascinating Peopleis an honor typically bestowed upon only the most worthy of candidates, so it’s only fitting that this year’s bunch includes the Kardashians and a hat trendsetter. Walters will present her picks on Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2011 on Dec. 14, and name the No. 1 most fascinating person of the year (who has yet to be revealed). Since we don’t know the most fascinating person’s identity, we now get two full weeks to internally debate the pop culture merits of the runners-up.

In one corner we have the Kardashian sisters, who spent their year taking over the world one oil enema at a time. Then there is Pippa Middleton, the fashionista sister of Kate who turned many a head during the Royal Wedding. I’m especially grateful to Simon Cowell for bringing the wonderful mess that is The X Factor to the U.S., but I also respect Katy Perry for incorporating a “slutty slot machine” into her wildly popular Teenage Dream tour. Rounding out the list are Donald Trump, Derek Jeter, and Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who have exposed countless television viewers to the normality of a loving gay relationship.

So, PopWatchers — who of these would you pick as the most fascinating person of the year? Barbara won’t reveal her number one until the show airs, but do the runners-up we already know about get your support? Vote in the poll below, and defend your choice in the comments.
