Mayday mayday, what’s going on with Pan Am?

The ABC drama’s co-star Karine Vanasse sent a tweet that heavily suggested the show was finished: “Well, we received THE call, #PanAm is only coming back for one more episode after Christmas. But up to the end, we’ll give it our all!”

THE call? One more episode? The End? And do airline pilots even say “mayday” anymore? ABC says Pan Am fans don’t need to assume crash positions … quite yet. But the signs aren’t good.

The network ordered 13 episodes for the show’s first season. Then ABC quietly ordered just one more, which is pretty grim, instead of the usual back 9 for a full-season pickup (or the usual zero for a cancellation). ABC is committed to airing all 14 — and that includes five episodes that will air next year, contrary to the Doom Tweet. But that’s it for this season.

Beyond that, well, that’s another question. Unless the Sunday night show’s ratings pull up (pull up!), Pan Am won’t likely fly again.

Vanasse later updated: “Sorry for the confusion #PanAm fans; there are still 5 new episodes to air until February :)”
