Holiday TV movie must-sees
- Movie
Consider this a PopWatch PSA: If there’s a holiday film you look forward to seeing each year, start checking the listings now. You don’t want to get a confessional e-mail from your friend Robb the morning after titled “My Hallmark Night” detailing how he stayed up late watching TV movies, including one of your favorites, 1999’s A Season for Miracles (starring Carla Gugino as the aunt who goes on the run with her niece and nephew to keep the kids together, David Conrad as the cop who falls for her, and Patty Duke as the angel who SPOILER ALERT! orchestrates their happily ever after). Luckily, it repeats Dec. 3 at 2 a.m. ET and Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. ET.
So, which holiday movie would it kill you to miss? My must-see is Flirting With Forty, the Lifetime movie starring Robert Buckley as the surfing instructor who gifts long-distance love Heather Locklear a bikini that she wears to take out the garbage on New Year’s Eve. It airs Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. ET on LMN. Phew, haven’t missed it! There’s also Holiday in Handcuffs, my all-time favorite ABC Family Christmas movie starring Melissa Joan Hart as the waitress/artist who kidnaps Mario Lopez and passes him off as her boyfriend to her family. (That’s not to be confused with Holiday Engagement, the 2011 Hallmark original I just watched Sunday night in which an out-of-work reporter pays an out-of-work actor to play the workaholic lawyer fiancé who just dumped her.) Holiday in Handcuffs airs Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. ET, leading into the premiere of 12 Dates of Christmas starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Amy Smart. Yes! (“The movie follows a young woman who re-lives the same first date on Christmas Eve over and over again until she learns to open up her world to new things and stop living in the past.” That sounds like a new contender!)
Looking over the networks’ schedules (Lifetime and LMN’s here, ABC Family’s here, and Hallmark’s here), is there a movie you’re planning to add into your rotation this year? I’m definitely taping 2003’s Undercover Christmas (Lifetime, Dec. 4, 6 p.m. ET). The description:
Jake Cunningham (Shawn Christian) is an uptight FBI agent assigned to protect Brandi O’Neill (Jami Gertz), a lower-class cocktail waitress who recently helped the tax fraud investigation of her billionaire boyfriend. When Jake’s wealthy parents (Tyne Daly & Winston Rekert) unexpectedly call him home for the holidays, Jake must bring Brandi too and they pose as a couple. The Cunninghams disapprove of the match, but begin to accept Jake’s “girlfriend” just as Jake and Brandi are truly becoming a couple.
Your turn!
