Nerd dating reality show ordered by TLC
TLC may have hit upon another big idea: Geek dating reality show.
The network has ordered Geek Love, a project that follows a speed-dating service at nerd-drawing events like Comic-Con. TLC greenlit two half-hour specials that will air next month and plans to make the project a full-fledged series if the specials draw large enough ratings.
Putting geeks and romance together has been tackled before. But unlike former CW series Beauty and the Geek, the new show pairs pop-culture loving socially awkward singles with each other via Ryan Giltch, founder of a service called Sci-Fi Speed Dating.
The show, produced by Authentic Entertainment, premieres Dec. 18 at 9 p.m. You want to see an exclusive trailer that includes a Wookiee mating call? Of course you do:
If it succeeds, TLC can add Geek Love to its list of subculture-exploring reality shows (the hit Extreme Couponing was also first launched a special airing in December).
Now if only a geek couple will marry and have 14 children, TLC will be set!
