The fangs (and claws) of Twi-hards may soon come out at your local multiplex. While there’s still eight days to go until Breaking Dawn — Part 1 hits theaters, those who don’t already have their opening weekend ticket may want to think about breaking out their wallets soon.

According to a release from, more than a 1,000 showtimes (and counting) for Breaking Dawn– Part 1 have already sold out on the site. As of Thursday, Nov. 10, the latest film in the Twilight series could be accounted for 72 percent of Fandango’s weekly sales, far surpassing this weekend’s release Immortals, which drew just 4 percent of their business. Fellow online ticket seller reports indicate similar numbers, having 1,344 performances sold out thus far.

But will this be one for the record books? While its advance sales could likely eclipse Eclipse, can the excitement surrounding Breaking Dawn — Part 1 and its long-anticipated wedding, honeymoon, and complicated pregnancy be enough to surpass New Moon as Fandango’s biggest advance seller of all-time, a feat that not even Harry Potter or Avatar could accomplish? While one industry analyst tells EW it’s unlikely, the clamor amongst fans to get tickets is still there.

After all, Fandango rep Harry Medved confirmed that the film has already become the No. 2 advance ticket seller for 2011, behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2. Theaters across the country, Medved says, are seeing their midnight shows completely sold out: “Twilight fever will continue to grip moviegoers around the country over the next eight days, as we’re seeing a surge of advance ticket sales over the last few days.”

But, don’t go taking a bite out of your fellow Twi-hard just yet. Medved assured, “Thankfully, theater owners are continually adding new showtimes to meet the fan demand.”
