This probably isn’t how Justin Bieber thought he would spend the day his Christmas album hit the streets.

The release of Under the Mistletoe may be the 17-year-old singer’s current focus, but much of the internet chatter today is directed at the paternity suit being thrown his way. In case you’re late to the party, a 20-year-old California woman alleges that she had sex with Bieber in a bathroom at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and that her child belongs to him. Entertainment Weekly received a statement from Bieber’s publicist last night, which dismissed the rumors as “malicious, defamatory, and demonstrably false.”

The details of the suit are sealed thanks to a California law that protects the identity of the child in these situations. Bieber himself has been making vague allusions to the situation on his Twitter; a few hours ago, he tweeted, “So I’m going to ignore the rumors…and focus on what is real. An opportunity to help by doing what i love. Judge me on the music!”

Before that, he noted “All the rumors…the gossip….I’m gonna focus on the positives….the music.” His fans have been responding with support, save for the Swedish girls who simply insist that he visit Sweden, no matter what he tweets.

The “help” he’s referring to is the charity push attached to Under the Mistletoe. As he explained on his official website, a portion of the proceeds from every copy of the album sold will go towards one of a number of charities, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Musicians On Call.
