After the success of George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead in 1978, Italy cranked out more flesh-eating copycats than you could shake a breadstick at. The best is Lucio Fulci’s Zombie (1979, Not Rated, 1 hr., 31 mins.). Set on a voodoo-drenched Caribbean island and starring Mia Farrow’s sister Tisa, Fulci’s film is a treat for gorehounds. Just out on a two-disc Ultimate Edition Blu-ray, the bloody import is packed with squirm-inducing scenes like a splinter impaling a woman’s eyeball and an underwater battle between a zombie and a shark. Buon appetito! B+
