Fireflies In The Garden, this pained semiautobiographical drama by writer-director Dennis Lee features lovely color-drained photography and strong performances from a starry cast led by a surprisingly subtle Ryan Reynolds and a gentle Julia Roberts. But the sadistic father (Willem Dafoe, what are the odds?) is a monster without explanation. And the resentments acted out at the dining table by the rest of this miserable family — gathered for a graduation celebration that turns into a wake — are so oppressive that Eugene O’Neill might ask, ”Too much?” C
