Happy news on How I Met Your Mother — and I’m not talking about the news that Kal Penn finally seems to be finding his rhythm on the show. (But I’ll get to that in a minute.)

Nope, the big news on the latest episode of Mother is that we now know Lily will soon be giving birth to a…. baby boy!*

I couldn’t be happier that the baby’s sex wasn’t treated as yet-another mystery that’s dragged out for several episodes. For a bit, I thought that’s the direction they were headed, and I wouldn’t have been very happy if it was. I’m also glad that Lily can now pick an appropriate nursery wall color — one that doesn’t look like something Ke$ha would wear as a lipstick.

But as Lily and Marshall prepare for their new addition, I’m still finding myself adapting to the latest addition to the group, Kevin. I’ve seen mixed reactions to his presence online, and I’m sad to report that I’m among the group who hasn’t grown attached to him quite yet. But it’s getting there. Until last night’s episode, I hadn’t felt like the relationship between him and Robin was justified. Yes, the montage last week of them sharing breakfast dates was cute, but I didn’t have a sense of their chemistry — which, as even the characters have admitted a few times before, is vastly important.

This week, seeing him spend significant time with the group was fun, especially because he didn’t immediately click with them. In fact, thought his little blow up about their co-dependency was pretty hilarious. If you’ve ever been the odd-person out in a group of longtime friends, you know what Kevin was feeling. And that’s what I’d been waiting for — for him to feel something. For a therapist, he was pretty frigid up until last night.

In all, I’m hoping he finds his place. Because if he’s going to be with us for a few more episodes, I’ve gots ta know he can blend with the group and join in the pre-date online stalking fun once in a while.

So what did you think of the episode, PopWatchers? Happy that Lily and Marshall are having a boy? Are you liking Kal Penn? Do you pre-date online stalk people? (YES!) How great were those Robin flashbacks? And are you, like me, starting to not notice Barney is wearing a duck tie?

*As Ty first pointed out in comments, this was referenced years ago. But if you are as unobservant as I am, SURPRISE!
