What happened last season?
Season 5 saw Dexter coping with the loss of Rita the only way he knows how: externalizing his pain on some victims. He also helped Julia Stiles’ Lumen exact revenge on the people who tried to kill her, including a cult-of-personality self-help guru played by Jonny Lee Miller.

Where did we leave off?
Lumen made it out of the season alive — raising Dexter’s murder-buddy survival ratio to 50 percent — but she decided not to stick around. Deb almost caught Dexter in the act, but he got away. Meanwhile, she’s growing closer to Quinn, and Dexter is growing into his role as a single father.

What to expect this season
Lord have mercy! Because Dexter won’t. Religion will play a big role in the new season, and while our sociopath might not find God, it looks like God may find him. Especially if it’s in the form of Edward James Olmos and Colin Hanks, who will play a murderous believer and his acolyte.
