Starz has already ordered a second season of Kelsey Grammer’s upcoming new drama, Boss, a month before its Oct. 21 debut. “This early vote of confidence from our partners at Starz is extremely gratifying and reflects the tremendous work of all those involved with Boss on both sides of the camera,” said Kevin Beggs, president of Lionsgate Television Group, in a statement. “Kelsey’s dramatic turn in this series is a powerful and radical departure from his previous television roles and we can’t wait for viewers to be drawn into his fascinating world.”

Grammer plays Chicago mayor, Tom Kane, who’s keeping a terrible secret that could cost him his position of power. The premiere episode — one of eight shows this season — also marks the television directorial debut of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Gus Van Sant (Milk).
