Universal just released a new red band trailer for The Thing, starring Warrior‘s Joel Edgerton and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World). The prequel is set three days before John Carpenter’s 1982 Kurt Russell showcase of the same name. Winstead plays a paleontologist who joins a crew Norwegian researchers in Antarctica just as they are beset by body-snatching aliens. There are plenty of creepy crawlies to spare in the one-minute clip. Also? More flame thrower! See the full trailer below:

The Thing hits theaters Oct. 14. What do you think, movie fans? Besides the one gratuitous shot of a guy’s chest getting straight-up demolished, was the red band distinction even worth it? It’s been said Winstead’s character is a riff on Alien‘s Ellen Ripley. Does that spark your interest enough to check out this Thing, or are you going to stick with Kick-Ass Kurt and the original recipe?
