'Highlander' reboot lands '28 Weeks Later' director
Summit Entertainment announced today that 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will direct a re-imagining of the 1986 cult classic Highlander. The film, written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, will be exec-produced by RCR Media Group principles Rui Costa Reis and Eliad Josephson, as well as Justin Lin of The Fast and the Furious franchise.
Highlander tells the story of Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish warrior who, after centuries of dueling, must finally confront a mercilessly murderous barbarian. The original film launched the American career of French actor Christopher Lambert, and also featured Sean Connery as another immortal.
Casting announcements are still forthcoming, with production slated to begin in the spring of 2012.
