Aziz Ansari has tense moment with audience member during club set
Funnyman Aziz Ansari dropped by a Los Angeles club Friday night for a surprise set and wound up exchanging words with a female audience member who asked him what he considered a “racist” question.
Appearing as a last-minute guest during comedian Tig Notaro’s show at the Largo at the Coronet, Ansari began taking questions from the crowd when a woman queried, “Why don’t you have a red dot on your forehead?”
While the audience gasped, a shocked Ansari replied by asking why she didn’t have the word “c— on her forehead.” Then he remarked about how there are still “racist” people in the world.
Ansari said he came straight from the Parks and Recreation set. He performed a short set about dating, d-bags dudes, and “dumb” teenagers from MTV’s 16 & Pregnant and My Super Sweet 16. (His beef: how the producers feature such “awful” girls on the programs.)
When asked by another audience member what he looks for in a girl, he gave an obligatory answer of “funny and smart” but added “she has to like Breaking Bad.”
Meanwhile, a food truck parked outside was handing out free pizza to promote 30 Minutes or Less, which stars Ansari, Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, and Nick Swardson. It opens Aug. 12.
Sarah Silverman and Nick Kroll (The League) also performed at the club.
