Brett Ratner and Don Mischer to produce Oscar telecast
Director Brett Ratner and veteran TV producer/director Don Mischer will produce next year’s Academy Awards telecast, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced. Mischer is a returning face, having coproduced this year’s ceremony with Bruce Cohen, while Ratner will tackle one of the toughest jobs in Hollywood for the first time. Ratner, the director of Red Dragon, X-Men: The Last Stand, and all three Rush Hour films (not to mention scores of music videos), has the Ben Stiller/Eddie Murphy action comedy Tower Heistcoming out this November. The most intriguing part of AMPAS’ announcement is the following quote from new Academy CEO Dawn Hudson: “Brett has a really smart and fresh take for the show.” Can’t wait to see what that is.
The 84th Academy Awards will take place on February 26, 2012. Ratner and Mischer’s first task: finding a host.
