Not every American Idol contestant can be a Kelly Clarkson or a Carrie Underwood.
Most fade into relative obscurity a few months after their season wraps, communicating regularly with their small Twitter fanbases or occasionally appearing on TMZ, but rarely actually doing much on the music front.
Something different is happening this summer, though. Idol alumni are taking charge of their careers and releasing a whole slew of new music into the world—and I’m not talking about the winners. Sure, David Cook has a new album, and Jordin Sparks is hitting the pavement to promote her new single, but a handful of Idol contestants (like Brooke White, pictured) who didn’t make the finals have new material due, and we’ve gathered them all in one big listening session here just for you.
After the jump, check out all new music from Chris Richardson, Kellie Pickler, Danny Gokey, Casey James, Brooke White, Mandisa, and Anthony Federov:
Chris Richardson (Season 6) sings the chorus on Tyga’s new single “Far Away” which is climbing the Rhythmic chart quickly. The video premiered on BET’s 106 and Park this week.
Kellie Pickler (Season 5) has a new song out called “Tough,” the lead single off her third album. It’s currently climbing the Country Songs charts, sitting just outside the Top 30.
Danny Gokey (Season 8 ) has been opening for Taylor Swift on her current Speak Now tour. On August 8, he will release his new single “Second Hand Heart” to country radio. Listen here:
Casey James (Season 9) just debuted his first single “Let’s Don’t Call It A Night,” which will go to radio on August 15.
Brooke White (Season 7) now makes up one half of the folksy musical duo Jack And White, who are releasing their EP Gemini on August 23. Check out a preview of the project below:
Mandisa‘s (Season 5) latest single, “Stronger,” reached number one on the Hot Christian Songs chart on June 18. The song’s success has helped push sales of her album, What If We Were Real, past 51,000 copies.
Anthony Federov (Season 4) released a new song called “You’re Perfect” on iTunes on June 29. The song is the first off a new EP, due out soon.
Have you kept up with any of these contestants? Which former Idol singer do you hope puts out new music soon?
