Blake Shelton names the Top 10 voices in country music. Do you agree?
Tonight on SiriusXM’s The Highway, channel 59, Blake Shelton—who’s currently atop the Billboard 200 album chart with the highest debut of his career—will host a special called “Blake Shelton’s Top Ten Voices in Country Music” at 6 p.m. ET.
You’ll have to wait till then to hear his countdown, but Sirius, which snapped this pic of him signing the autograph wall at its studio, did give us a sneak peek of his picks in alphabetical order:
What will be interesting — besides how many people think of the George Jones song “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes” when noting the lack of male contempories—is how he ranks them. Care to guess?
When I chatted with Shelton for an EW Pop Culture Personality Test in 2008, he said Earl Thomas Conley was the first celebrity he ever befriended and referred to him as “my favorite singer of all time.” So don’t be surprised if he takes the top spot over Shelton’s wife, Miranda Lambert (who I suspect will at least best Underwood), and his friend/Voice assistant coach Reba McEntire (who I imagine would take the ladies’ title over Martina).
The men are more difficult: Is George Jones too obvious? Probably… Since Shelton had a hit with a cover of Twitty’s “Goodbye Time” and name-checks him in his single “Honey Bee”—and because I was raised by a mother who put Conway’s picture on our wall of family photographs—I’m hoping he puts Twitty at No. 1.
If you miss the special tonight, it airs again Saturday, July 23 at 10 p.m. ET, Sunday, July 24 at 1 pm ET, and Wednesday, July 27 at 11 am ET.
