Carmageddon is looming over Los Angeles, and you better believe James Franco is going to get a piece of that. Or at least the ubiquitous star’s upcoming film Rise of the Planet of the Apes is. As part of a “gorilla” marketing campaign, the popcorn flick has released a 10-second spot in which they’ve unleashed a gaggle of apes on a Los Angeles overpass. See the full video after the jump.

This weekend, 10 miles of the 405 Freeway, also known as the primary lifeline of the west side of Los Angeles, will shut down for construction. The film’s simian stars, with their Twitter-ready “Apes Will Rise” slogan, aren’t the only ones spreading the word. The LAPD recently asked Twitter heavies like Ashton Kutcher and Kim Kardashian to prepare their car-dependent, L.A.-based fans for the traffic on Saturday and Sunday.
