Edward Norton is in the final stages of talks to foil Jeremy Renner in The Bourne Legacy, reports Variety. Helmed by Tony Gilroy, scribe of the previous three Bourne films, the spin-off will also star Rachel Weisz. Though all involved have been tight-lipped, it’s believed the pic will not feature Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne in any capacity. Instead, Renner will play a fellow assassin trained in the fictive CIA’s Operation Treadstone, with Norton as his nemesis.

This will be Norton’s first turn in a high-profile action movie since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, which received mixed reviews. Norton, whose reps joined Legacy production company Universal in refusing to comment on the negotiations, is currently filming Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom with Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand, and Owen Wilson.
