TNT just renewed Falling Skies for a second season.

The alien invasion drama has been a ratings success on Sunday nights so far, with its premiere posting as the most-watched cable debut of the year. Skies has averaged 6.4 million viewers for its first three episodes if you include DVR use. Sunday’s episode of Skies slipped once again, but at 4 million viewers it was a very mild drop between episodes two and three — especially for a holiday weekend.

Falling Skies is a true standout series, from its ambitious storytelling, high-profile cast and production team to its phenomenal success when it comes to international and time-shifted viewing,” said Michael Wright, head of programming for TNT. “We’re reaching new audiences with Falling Skies and look forward to seeing where this fascinating and exciting series takes us next.” TNT picked up another 10 episodes which will debut next summer.
