Two-time Harry Potter director Chris Columbus has acquired the remake rights to the Norwegian horror film Troll Hunter, which begins its U.S. theatrical run today. The fake documentary follows a government-sanctioned hunter as he tracks and slays trolls in the wilds of Scandinavia. “Troll Hunter was a visceral, thrilling cinematic rock and roller coaster ride of a movie,” Columbus said in a statement. “Visually, there are scenes in this film that American audiences have never seen. We want to introduce an International audience to this amazing moviegoing experience!”

The remake rights were acquired by Columbus’ 1492 Pictures company and CJ Entertainment & Media. The new film will be penned by Marc Haimes, whose horror movie script Elevator Men was sold to Summit in 2009. You can check out to the trailer for the original Troll Hunter, which is also available on VOD, below.
