My Morning Jacket thrive on the tension between melody and lyric: The Kentucky fivesome manage to make intense anxiety sound positively jaunty on ”You Wanna Freak Out” and ”Outta My System.” But more often the words are used as sounds, allowing frontman Jim James to bellow and croon with abandon, as he does on ”Slow Slow Tune” — a slow, slow tune with a trite, up-with-people message. Focus on Circuital‘s sounds, not its content. B+
