The Voice‘s Battle Rounds are quickly becoming one of the best recent innovations in the music-competition genre, and last night’s duels were a mishmash of vocal styles and musical genres. They didn’t always work acoustically, but they were certainly… interesting. Nakia and Tje Austin collaborating on Ne-Yo’s “Closer” was a surprisingly sweet jam, while the trio’s (Jared, plus the folk duo, Elenowen) rendition of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” seemed a little uneven. You can’t really go wrong with “Stand By Me,” which Angela Wolff and Javier Colon delivered, and the right voice can really shine in The Who’s “Baba O’Riley.” (Sorry, Justin.)
