It was good to be a Scotty McCreery fan in Garner, N.C., on Saturday: The American Idol finalist returned to his hometown and put on a concert for American Idol cameras (we’ll see footage on Thursday’s show) and was surprised onstage by his deep-voiced hero, country singer Josh Turner. “He didn’t see me until we were almost face-to-face. I think I almost gave him a heart attack,” Turner said afterwards. McCreery recovered enough to duet with Turner on his hits “Your Man” and “Long Black Train,” both of which McCreery has sung on Idol. Watch it below. The clip starts out with McCreery assuring his fans that just because he’s been in L.A. working seven days a week for months doesn’t mean he’s lost faith — it’s grown stronger. (Meeting Lady Gaga, or singing a lyric about being evil, doesn’t make you evil, people! Seriously!)
