'Bridesmaids' Melissa McCarthy
- Movie
Over the weekend, Bridesmaids pulled in an impressive $24.4 million at the box office. But, an even more impressive feat was how it made many of those moviegoers shake with uncontrollable, gut-busting laughter.
When I saw Bridesmaids for the first time — yes, you read that correctly, first time — it was the scene where we first meet Melissa McCarthy’s character that did me in. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely cracked up during the opening sequence with Jon Hamm and Kristen Wiig (and her less-than-graceful exit from his gated residence), her attempt to get the attention of her handsome copper (a crush-worthy Chris O’Dowd) in her car, and, of course, the infamous bridal shop moment (see left, right before hell brook loose with McCarthy, Ellie Kemper and Wendi McLendon-Covey.)
But there was something about the introduction of McCarthy’s unfiltered, puppy-stealing, Air Marshal-loving Megan that made me laugh harder than anything else in the movie. Her musings on the men at the engagement party, her dolphin story, and her general awesome presence made it obvious that a new comedy star was being born (and that my boisterous laugh was, no doubt, annoying anyone seated within a five-row radius of me.)
So, I’m curious PopWatchers, which scene in Bridesmaids made you howl with laughter in the theater this weekend? Let us know in the comments section below!
