The first trailer for August’s Fright Night has finally risen from the grave and it looks like the DreamWorks chiller is as much a black comedy as it is a white-knuckle bloodbath. Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer with a pasty-faced Colin Farrell thrown into the bargain. Directed by Lars and the Real Girl‘s Craig Gillespie, the 3-D update of the beloved 1985 cult favorite stars Anton Yelchin as a suburban teenager who becomes suspicious of his new neighbor whom his mom (Toni Collette) seems to have the hots for. Of course, his suspicions are more vampiric than Oedipal, even though Farrell seems to have his fangs sharpened for Yelchin’s girlfriend (Imogen Poots), too. “She’s ripe!”

With the help of his high school pal (yes, that’s most definitely Superbad‘s McLovin!), Yelchin goes head to head with Farrell’s hunky neckbiter who happens to be named Jerry. “Jerry? That is a terrible vampire name!” Personally, I think I dig the movie’s jokey vibe. After all of the excruciatingly self-seriousness going on in the Twilight films, it will be good to have a good laugh or two as the blood spills.

Check out the trailer and tell us what you think.
