Open Road Films has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Killer Elite, an action thriller starring Jason Statham, Clive Owen and Robert DeNiro. Directed by newcomer Gary McKendry, the film is due for a fall 2011 release nationwide and will be the first film for the newly launched Open Road Films, a collaboration between AMC and Regal Entertainment.

Killer Elite is a fantastic, adrenaline-rush movie with a stellar cast,” said Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg, in a release. “As one of the highest profile, big budget independent films available for the US, I am thrilled to have Killer Elite as Open Road’s premiere release and to extend my long-standing relationship with the team at Omnilab.”

Inspired by Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ non-fiction novel The Feather Men, Killer Elite is an action adventure following a skilled special-ops agent (Statham), who reassembles his old team to help rescue his former mentor (De Niro) and to face off against a rogue group of ex-British special forces led by Spike (Owen).
