Among the subjects of this florid, convoluted historical drama from writer-director Roland Joffé (The Mission): the Spanish Civil War; the spiritual path of the now-canonized priest Josemaría Escrivá (Charlie Cox), founder of the controversial Roman Catholic organization Opus Dei (which gives the ? flattering pic its blessing); and the reconciliation of a journalist (Dougray Scott) and his estranged, dying father (American Beauty‘s Wes Bentley, in old-man makeup and in youthful flashback). As tidy plot structure would have it, the moribund dad was Escrivá’s childhood friend. C+
