In this follow-up to 2010’s The Ice Princess, her excellent English-language debut, Swedish author Läckberg returns to the fishing village of Fjällbacka — and proves last year’s rave reviews were no fluke. After a little boy playing in the rocky outcroppings on the shore discovers the body of a young woman, detective Patrik Hedstrom soon ties her death to the disappearance of two girls decades earlier. Läckberg’s short chapters move The Preacher‘s story along at an almost brutal clip, as Patrik works the new case and the stone-cold ones.
