The fervor that made 2010’s Plastic Beach worthwhile is largely absent on The Fall, a follow-up recorded on frontman Damon Albarn’s iPad 1 during the band’s recent tour. The vocals are hollow and the musicality limited and lethargic; Albarn would’ve benefited greatly from the next-gen iPad’s GarageBand app. There are a few moments of brilliance, like Bobby Womack’s spirited crooning on ”Bobby in Phoenix.” Hopefully that energy will spill into their next effort — in a studio.
