'Saturday Night Live': Ed Helms to host alongside musical guest Paul Simon. Who are you more excited to see?
- TV Show
NBC announced today that Saturday Night Live‘s May 14 episode will feature The Hangover Part II and Office star Ed Helms as host, and Paul Simon as musical guest. So which is easier to get excited about? It’s a tough question. For one, Paul Simon has appeared on Saturday Night Live as musical guest a whopping eight times, and boasts a hosting stint during the show’s second season. That appearance brought us the famous cold open in which Simon playfully ribs a peddling Chevy Chase — who left the show after one season — and George Harrison negotiates his appearance as musical guest sans three other Beatles with Lorne Michaels. (See clip of the 1976 sketch below.) On the other hand, you have first-time host Helms, whose work on The Office has been tragically ignored (by the Emmys), and was the only actor to come close to stealing scenes from Zach Galifianakis in The Hangover. Plus, judging by his work on “Stu’s Song” (also embedded below), and Andy Bernard’s stint with Here Comes Treble, Helms could even double as musical guest himself.
