Sorry, everyone who received a shiny new iPad for Christmas or Kwanzaa three months ago — your once-awesome present has now been rendered obsolete. That’s because Apple begins shipping its second-generation iPad today. The revamped gadget, memorably introduced by Steve Jobs himself last week, is 33 percent thinner and up to 15 percent lighter than the original model, according to Apple. It’s also twice as fast. Additionally, iPad 2 features two HD cameras (one on the front, one on the back), Face Time video chatting, Garage Band and iMovie apps, and video mirroring — that is, if you buy a separately-sold cable and use it to plug your iPad into a projector or a TV, that bigger screen will show whatever’s being displayed on the iPad, be it movie, game, or email. Prices start at $499.

Are any of you planning to spring for an iPad 2? If so … wanna pick up an extra one for me? And how much do you figure your still-pristine iPad 1 is worth now on the open market?
