Two of the biggest movie theater chains are joining forces to launch a new film distribution company. AMC and Regal have announced Open Road Films, which plans to release eight to 10 wide-release movies per year, according to a press release. “Open Road Films will approach movie distribution with discipline, focus, and innovation,” said former Lionsgate chief, Tom Ortenberg, who is Open Road’s new CEO. “With strong support from exhibition we will market and distribute wide-release motion pictures in an effective, cost-efficient manner, playing in all theatre chains across the country.”
