Image Credit: A.M.P.A.S.As we all know, an Oscar win can give a film a mass audience, and an actor newly obsessive fans. After this year’s Academy Awards, whose oeuvre have you been inspired to explore more thoroughly? Maybe you’ve already moved a few films to the front of your Netflix queue, or perhaps you’re using your lunch hour to watch interviews on YouTube. Best Actor winner Colin Firth is the lucky recipient of my focus this year, which means I will finally be seeing both A Single Man (which garnered him an Oscar nod last year) and The Last Legion (which required him to wear a leather breastplate). In the meantime, I can recommend watching the talk show appearances embedded below:

Late Late Show, in 2010. He talks about going into a sports shop to buy weights to get in shape for A Single Man, and well, I won’t ruin the punchline for you. (For Part 1 of that interview, which somehow ends up on the topic of porn, click here.)

The Ellen DeGeneres Show, in 2006. He relays the story of having to be rescued by his neighbors — while wearing only his underwear — in great detail.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, in 2003. He talks about falling on the way from his hotel to the limo and why he’s the last remaining English twit. (He’s made five appearances on The Daily Show. Second best: The 2008 one in which he talks, at length, about a man photographing his penis in a theater restroom.)

Inside the Actors Studio, in 2011. In Part 1, he talks about being 5-years-old and getting mobbed and clawed at by girls after playing Jack Frost. “I just thought that’s it. Next stop, it’s cocaine in the back of the limo.” (Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4)

@KatieCouric, in 2010. Thirty-four minutes of him talking about The King’s Speech.
