Your Oscars party: What's for dinner?
Image Credit: Merrick MortonYou’ve seen all the movies, you’ve filled out your ballot, but there’s still one thing to prepare before Sunday’s Oscars: The meal. And though in previous years it’s been easy to come up with drinks and a menu inspired by the Best Picture nominees — milk in 2010 for Inglourious Basterds, milk in 2009 for Milk, and, er, milkshakes in 2008 for There Will Be Blood — I’m coming up a bit empty this year. Last year, we planned blueberry pie for Avatar, some football-approved hot wings for The Blind Side, and a nice mini-flask of vodka for Up in the Air. What’s there to do with a film like Black Swan, where the food theme is… nothing? Or Inception, a movie that makes your stomach feel less hungry and more nauseous?
Really, the only obvious option for this year’s Oscars menu is grits, inspired by, of course, True Grit. I may add a chicken dish to the mix — thanks to Eduardo Saverin’s temporary pet in The Social Network — and cheat by borrowing from other categories: A few Southern dishes inspired by Country Strong — whose “Coming Home” is nominated for Best Original Song — and some heart-shaped cookies to celebrate Michelle Williams nomination for Blue Valentine.
Come on, PopWatchers: I’m hungry for a great Oscars menu. Help me out here: What inspired dinner are you planning for Sunday? And can I steal your ideas?
