Britney Spears has unveiled the high-concept video for her new single ”Hold It Against Me.” She beats herself up, and we break it down.

00:39: Can Brit Brit’s record label not afford such a lavish video? It seems that way, given the egregious product plugs, including Sony and Spears’ own perfume. Frankly, it all stinks. D

02:47: Not since Mariah Carey assaulted her doppelgänger in ”Heartbreaker” have we been so entertained by a pop star pummeling herself. Bonus points for the skittering heels. B+

02:59: Spears dons some bridalesque couture and then douses herself with paint. She hasn’t gotten this messy since her UPN reality show Britney & Kevin: Chaotic…but we kinda like it. B-

03:58: Remember when Spears’ dance routines were iconic blasts of sexual expression? Not so much anymore. Senior-citizen chair aerobics are more animated than this. C

Overall Grade: B-
