The question: Who is…Watson? The supercomputer emerged victorious Wednesday over his superhuman competition, netting $41,413 in gameplay on day 3, trumping both Jennings ($19,200) and Rutter ($11,200). For the week, Watson earned $77,147, Jennings tallied $24,000, and Rutter scored $21,600. Watson (named after the company’s founder Thomas J. Watson) won the million-dollar grand prize, which IBM says will go to charity, while Jennings and Rutter receive prizes of $300,000 and $200,000, respectively; both plan to donate half of their winning to charity. Ratings for the first two days of the showdown were the show’s best in almost six years.
