Focus Features announced today that it would distribute the long-delayed period thriller The Debt, starring Sam Worthington, Helen Mirren, and Tom Wilkinson, in partnership with Miramax Pictures. The film — which follows a trio of Israeli Mossad agents both in the 1960s as they track down a Nazi war criminal, and the 1990s after they’ve retired — was held in limbo after Disney sold Miramax to Filmyard Holdings LLC for more than $660 million last July. The film will hit theaters on Aug. 31; Focus’ sister company Universal Pictures International will handle overseas distribution.
