Image Credit: Rankin; Emma SummertonRobyn will open for Katy Perry on a North American tour this summer. A Perry rep confirms that (as first reported in Billboard) the Swedish pop singer will join the California gurl on select dates during her June-August run across the continent. Welsh artist Marina & the Diamonds will also open some dates; it remains unclear exactly which acts will appear at which shows.

This is fantastic news for fans of Robyn. Her brilliant Body Talk was EW’s No. 3 album of 2010, but it still hasn’t made nearly the commercial impact it ought to. In an ideal world, she and Katy Perry would already be equally famous; if this tour helps expose Robyn to a wider cross-section of North American pop listeners, that’s an important step in the right direction. (The same goes for Marina, another European talent who deserves more attention in the States.)

For much more on why Robyn isn’t a superstar here yet — and what she’s doing to change that in 2011 — check out the story on her in this week’s EW, available at newsstands tomorrow. Until then, what do you think of this tour announcement? Would you buy tickets to see Katy Perry and Robyn on tour together?
