Michael Scott is not long for Scranton, but now there’s new info on who will succeed him as branch manager: It looks like the race is on between Dwight, Darryl, and Andy. I’m still holding out hope that Kelly gets the top spot, but if it can’t be her, I hope it’s Darryl.

The departure of Steve Carell means The Office has some pretty big shoes to fill — which is why they shouldn’t try to fill them at all. Andy is a little too close to a Michael Jr., and the show already struggles with being repetitive. Dwight’s mania, while sublimely entertaining, would just seem brutal and cruel if he were promoted; part of what makes him funny is his chronic second-place finish. Which brings us to Darryl, the sanest, most relaxed character on the show. I’d love to see a completely different spin on the power dynamics of Dunder Mifflin, and see how everyone lets his or her own freak flag fly once there’s someone calm and in control in the corner office.

Of Darryl, Andy, and Dwight, who do you hope gets promoted, PopWatchers?
