Courtney Love, 46, will go to trial Feb. 8 for a defamation lawsuit brought by designer Dawn Simorangkir, who claims that Love’s March 2009 Twitter tirades against her — in which she called Simorangkir a prostitute and a thief — damaged her reputation and career…. Survivor star Richard Hatch, 48, was found guilty Jan. 10 of violating the conditions of his probation by continuing to refuse to pay taxes on the million dollars he won in 2000 during the first season. The reality star, whose IRS debt has now grown to $1.7 million, has already served more than three years in prison for tax evasion and could face an additional two years when sentenced later this year.

Michael Douglas, 66, told Matt Lauer on the Today show that after seven weeks of radiation and chemotherapy the tumor in his throat is gone and he’s cancer-free. Douglas was diagnosed with throat cancer in August 2010.

British filmmaker Peter Yates, 81, who directed Steve McQueen in 1968’s landmark cop thriller Bullitt, died in London on Jan. 9. Yates was nominated for four Academy Awards during his five-decade career.
