The Producers Guild of American announced today that it would reward Milk star Sean Penn with its Stanley Kramer Award. The honor, named after the Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner filmmaker, is bestowed on a Hollywood individual who works to bring attention to various social issues. Along with appearing in socially conscious films like Milk, Penn has also spent considerable time in Haiti aiding with the aftermath of its Jan. 12, 2010 earthquake. (He also helped with Hurricane Katrina rescue efforts.) The actor-director will receive the award at the 22nd Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony on Jan. 22 in Los Angeles.
