Exclusive: Lady Gaga choreographer lands E! series
Laurieann Gibson, the dance guru behind Lady Gaga, has landed a docusoap series at E! produced by Ryan Seacrest.
Previously reported as being in development at the network, EW has found that The Dance Scene has received a series greenlight.
Eight episodes of the half-hour show will follow Gibson as she trains and leads a team of ambitious assistant choreographers and dancers as they prepare to work with high-profile stars.
“The competitive world of the professional dancer is grueling creative work,” says Lisa Berger, executive vice president of programming at E! “Watching Laurieann mentor these young artists, who will do anything to make it in the business, gives us a glimpse into a world where the pursuit of success and excellence outweighs all else.”
For 15 years, Gibson has worked with artists ranging from Diddy to Alicia Keys, and has choreographed Lady Gaga’s music videos and her recent world tour. She’s also no stranger to TV fans, having broke through as a “Fly Girl” on the Fox series In Living Color, worked as one of the stars of MTV’s Making the Band, and was a judge on ABC’s recent Skating With the Stars. (But don’t hold that against her.)
Dance Scene (working title) is from Ryan Seacrest Productions, which of course also produces E!’s mega-popular Kardashians franchise, with Amber Mazzola serving as executive producer.
“Dance is at the center of pop culture — today more than ever — and Laurieann is an amazing force accelerating this huge wave of creativity,” Seacrest says. “This series gives audiences an insider’s view of how competitive the dance world is, the talent and ambition that a dancer needs to be successful in the Hollywood scene, and the drama that ensues along the way.”
The series debuts April 10.
